ゆうまちゃんは馬？群馬のキャラ？性別は？ぐんまちゃんはいつから？Is Yuuma-chan a horse? Gunma character? What’s your gender? When did Gunma-chan start working?
この画像を見て、現在のぐんまちゃん（二代目ぐんまちゃん）と思われる方もいらっしゃると思います。しかし名札が「ゆうまちゃん」となっているとおり、「ゆうまちゃん」です。そっくりというのは当然で、ゆうまちゃんは途中でぐんまちゃんを襲名したのです。だからゆうまちゃんは以前の群馬のキャラなのです。
ところで、ゆうまちゃんは馬？そう思えるような、思えないような愛らしいキャラクターですね。実はゆうまちゃんは馬ではなく、ポニーがモチーフとなっています。二頭身のネコの有名なキャラクターはキティーちゃんですが、ゆうまちゃんは二頭身のポニーのキャラクターというわけです。ゆうまちゃんは様々なボーダーをなくすため、性別や国籍などはありません。
ゆうまちゃんの由来など詳細は別に投稿しているとおりですが、ゆうまちゃんは1994年開催の知的障害者スポーツ大会「ゆうあいピック群馬大会」のマスコットキャラクターとして制作され、その後、1996年開催の全国スポーツレクリエーション、2004年開催のねんりんピックでもマスコットキャラクターとして採用されました。

By the way, is Yuuma-chan a horse? She’s such an adorable character that you wouldn’t think so. Actually, Yuma-chan’s motif is not a horse, but a pony. Kitty is a famous two-headed cat character, but Yuma-chan is a two-headed pony character. Yuma-chan has no gender or nationality in order to eliminate various borders.
Details such as the origin of Yuuma-chan are posted separately, but Yuuma-chan was created as a mascot character for the “Yuai Pick Gunma Tournament”, a sports tournament for people with intellectual disabilities held in 1994, and later became a mascot character for the national sports tournament held in 1996. It was also used as a mascot character in the 2004 Nenrinpic Recreation Festival.

この銀座に開所したぐんま総合情報センターのことを「ぐんまちゃん家」と名付けました。この当時の群馬県内では様々な行事で使われた「ゆうまちゃん」がすっかり定着し、人気者となっていました。しかし銀座にぐんま総合情報センターを開設するにあたり、「ぐんまちゃん」の方が県外の人にも認知されやすい、でも「ゆうまちゃん」の方が著作権の関係でポーズの変更追加の融通がきく、という状況で悩まされました。
この時、当時の群馬県の大澤正明知事が、「群馬県で子どもにそれだけ人気があるなら、ゆうまちゃんをぐんまちゃんにしたらどうだと。東京に初めて行くのに、ゆうまちゃんなんか知っているやつは誰もいないぞ、ぐんまちゃんでいいんだよ」（以上、群馬県議会平成21年9月定例会会議録より引用）という案を出され、反対する人も多い中、「ゆうまちゃん」が「二代目ぐんまちゃん」へ改名されました。
このように「ゆうまちゃん」から「二代目ぐんまちゃん」へ改名したのは、2008年7月に銀座に「ぐんまちゃん家」がオープンした時です。

I was troubled by the situation.
At this time, then-Gunma Prefecture Governor Masaaki Osawa said, “If Yuuma-chan is that popular with children in Gunma Prefecture, why don’t we make Yuuma-chan Gunma-chan?If you’re going to Tokyo for the first time, but you know Yuuma-chan… There’s no one here, Gunma-chan is fine.” (The above is quoted from the minutes of the September 2009 regular meeting of the Gunma Prefectural Assembly).While many people opposed this idea, “Yuuma-chan” was proposed as “the second generation.” The name was changed to “Gunma-chan”. The name was changed from “Yuuma-chan” to “Second Generation Gunma-chan” in July 2008 when “Gunma-chan House” opened in Ginza.
ゆうまちゃんの現在 ゆうまちゃんはなくなった？
現在、群馬県の広報その他多くのものに「二代目ぐんまちゃん」が印刷されています。「二代目ぐんまちゃん」の姿をした「ゆうまちゃん」はすっかりなくなってしまいました。そんな中、なぜか「二代目ぐんまちゃん」が印刷されていない配布物があるのです。それがこれ。パスポートの受け取りの時にもらう注意事項の用紙。
この用紙になぜ「二代目ぐんまちゃん」の印刷がなされていないのかはわからないのですが、パスポートの所持人自署に「群馬ゆうま」と書いてあるのです。「ゆうまちゃん」が非常に頑張っていたため、「二代目ぐんまちゃん」へと名前が変わることに反対する人がたくさんいました。その影響でしょうか？ゆうまちゃんを忘れたくないという気持ちの表れでしょうか？群馬県が「ゆうま」という名前を今も大切にしていることがわかる１枚だと思います。

Because “Yuuma-chan” worked so hard, there were many people who opposed changing her name to “Second Generation Gunma-chan.” Is that an influence? Is this an expression of not wanting to forget Yuuma-chan? I think this photo shows that Gunma Prefecture still cherishes the name “Yuuma”.
